Northern Cross Country Routes
- NCN20 - Walney to Wear - 151 mile route from Walney Island, near Barrow In Furness, to Sunderland via Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland, Hamsterley Forest. Not as many hills as the C2C. You can check out the route profile on the W2W website.
- NCN7 - Coast to Coast - 140 miles of hills, rain, and gravel rash. We all know the score. Stephen and Simon reckoned they are going to run this over the course of a week in 2007!
- NCN72 - Hadrians Cycleway - 174 mile route from Roman settlements Ravenglass in Cumbria (south of Whitehaven) to South Shields via Hadrians Wall. Parts of this route around Ravenglass and Whitehaven are still under development and due to finish in 2007, however there's always roads to divert on to. Should be a doddle for those who did Roman Studies at school.
- RR10 - Reivers - 171 mile route from Whitehaven up through Carlisle then through Kielder Forest down to Tynemouth.
- NCN1 - Coast and Castles - 200 mile route from Edinburgh down to Tynemouth and on to Newcastle taking in the coast and a few castles, hence the name. The route profile is available online.
- NCN1/7/72/14 - Three Rivers - 135 miles from Teeside up to Tynemouth. Doesn't sound much, and has the advantage of the start and finish points being a short journey away from our general start points. In fact, they're close enough to cycle too in half a day.
- Isle of Arran - Like a pocked sized summary of Scotland, this has a number of different routes that could be used to fill a weekend. Looping around the island on road in a day, then going over the top on some proper mountain biking routes.
- NCN68 - Pennine Cycleway - Not exactly a cross country, more up country. 355 miles from Derby up to Berwick. Maybe slightly more than 3 days...
GPS Stuff
- Bikely - Online collection of GPS data from cycle routes, includes visualisation of these cycle routes in Google Maps.
- GPSies - Online convertor of GPX to CRS. Used to convert data from Bikely back to course data for my Edge 205. You can also reduce the number of trackpoints in a GPS file if the file is too big (and thus not accepted by somewhere like motionbased)
- GPS Visualiser - another conversion utility that outputs in Google Earth KML format.
- MotionBased - Online commercial GPS reporting site. Has a free version with limited functionality which is good enough for me.
- GPX2CRS - A GPX to Garmin Course convertor that also enables you to reverse a route.
